go big or go home

Jess Hutch - who's well-known for her knitted robots and many other little whimsical knit toys - has gone BIG.

Her newest creation is this big guy. He's hand-knitted and 4 1/2 feet tall.

Here's photo of him watching tv and another of him walking around. Walking!

Also, some shots of the WIP... AKA a knitted disembodied head! Here he is alone on a chair and - for scale -compared to Jess, compared to Jeff, and compared to other toys.

I love his droopy little ears. What a big lug.

bunnyfish and the magic pony

Hey Toronto! Kozyndan are coming!

Starting tomorrow, the Magic Pony Gallery in Toronto will be host to Kozyndan's new art show, Tales of the Bunnyfish. The show features bunnyfish (yes, bunny + fish!) through paintings, drawings, photos and sculpture. Plus, my craft friends, bunnyfish is crocheted! Love it.

Over the past few months, Kozyndan's little crocheted bunnyfish have been on all kinds of adventures... he especially likes cozying up with the ladies. Here are some bunnyfish photos from the road. (Or stream.)

If you're in the Toronto area, definitely go check out the show. Kozyndan's work is always great. I have a print of their work on my wall, and it never fails to make me smile: it's Kozyndan's take on Hokusai's famous painting - here's the original - but with bunnies. Again, bunnies. What's not to love?

Tales of the Bunnyfish is on the Magic Pony Gallery (694 Queen St West, Toronto) until July 29, 2007.

UPDATE! Check out photos from the opening, thanks to Magic Pony and also Kozyndan. They even had bunnyfish cookies! Yum!

cuteness begets cuteness begets cuteness

You know the saying "like attracts like"? I'd like amend it to "I like attracts I like".

I Like #1: First, I came across this adorable photo of amigurumi bears on the Occupied Shoppe's flickr. I love their little growly smiles.

A comment on the flickr photo led me to this enviable artists' pillow collection, including one by Malota, who I've already raved about. Which would be I Like #2.

Turns out that the same person who owns those pillows also made those little red bears: M. Patrizio. Her work is I Like #3. M. Patrizio is a powerhouse of cute production. Painting, illustration, and crocheted toys galore. Go explore the cute on M. Patrizio's portfolio, blog and etsy shop.

messy messy messy

I've been back from my trip for 12 days, and have yet to unpack. That, plus the fact that my only gesture towards tidying up recently (actually, for much too long) has been to drop things onto a "I'll Deal With This Later" pile. Or rather, piles. Plural.

So today has been all about tidying up. So far, that's just resulted in me spreading my mess into other areas of the house, under the guise of "organizing". Where's all this stuff going to go?

Yeeks. All that stuff was piled on my desk, and the result was not pretty. It'd be nice to have a workspace that's clear, organized and also supercute, like Treefort's calm, colour-coordinated area:

If anyone has some good organizing tips, especially for papers etc (besides a filing cabinet), please share them!

thanks, coffee lovers!

Hi everyone! Like Lindsay said, it's been too long. It's weird how we both decided to start posting again today. Telepathy, I guess.

There was also another possibly-telepathic event of the day: Whip Up wrote some kind words about my coffee sleeve quilt! The timing of this lovely surprise was perfect, as came at the end of a very long day, much too much of which was taken up staring at an Excel spreadsheet (ugh!). Nothing counteracts the harmful effects of Excel-overload like a nice dose of craft and love. Thanks, Whip Up!

Also thanks to Natalie at Craft: and to everyone one else who brightened my day.

(Oh, and can I just say how hilarious it is that that photo of me sleeping is now all over the interweb! Hee!)

a long time coming

Hello, friends of M&C, it's been too long. I've been working on the ol' thesis (defense next week!) and Sio's been travelling, so we've not been here for awhile. Let's catch up. Here are a few things that have been catching my fancy lately:

What are you into?
