How did I miss out on getting tickets to tonight's CupcakeCamp Vancouver event? I totally dropped the ball on this one.
What is CupcakeCamp Vancouver?
CupcakeCamp Vancouver is an event built on the ‘barcamp’ model, where people come together to share and eat cupcakes, and participate in cupcake tasting competitions! You don’t need to bake any cupcakes to participate, but there will be prizes awarded to the winners in the big cupcake competitions!
This event is not-for profit, and we will be donating all of the proceeds to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, an organization that provides a safe, supportive space for women and children in Vancouver’s downtown east side.
Craft Rock Friday this week is all about the DIY movies - and DIY moves.
Eternal Moonwalk is a tribute project for Michael Jackson, where anyone can send in a video of themselves moonwalking. The videos are all linked together on the site to form one big moonwalk around the world.
Don't you just hate those mornings? You're still all nice aad cozy in your PJ's and are all ready to wake up slowly with a nice, warm cup of coffee - when suddenly - WHAMMO! - a paint bomb smashes into the window.
And then you have to go outside and run after the path of paint drippings in the streets... and you know where that leads... Yup, to trouble.
This video for "It Hurts Me all the Time" by Edmonton's own shoegaze/electro band Faunts was made by Vancouver's Just Don't Sleep Productions. (And it's set here in Vancouver, so some of you might recognize the sidewalks.)
The Beekeepers Ball was held in NYC earlier this week. It was a kickoff to Pollinator Week, an awareness-raising campaign about bees (a population rapidly and mysteriously in decline), a call to action to get beekeeping legalized in NYC, an all-round celebration of bees and honey - and (yeah!) a costume party.
And I just adore this description of the event:
In attendance were New York City beekeepers, aspiring New York City beekeepers, beekeepers not from New York City, friends of beekeepers, friends of bees, people who like to dress as bees, people who like to dress their children as bees, bee-dressed children, one cross-dressing beekeeper, a couple of guys who spend much of their time dressed in armor, fans of honey, fans of local food and a team of French videographers.
All of this reminds me of the bee condos that are up around Vancouver. (More on them here.) I just spotted one of these in my neighbourhood park this week. These are so rad.
