What's a gauntlet, you ask? Well, according to Wikipedia:
Gauntlet is a name for several different styles of glove. In general, a gauntlet covers the wrist, the hand, fingers and forearms. Gauntlets exist in many forms ranging from flexible fabric and leather gloves, to chainmail and fully-articulated metal plates.
Ah, yes. Just the kind of thing to toss around during a hissy fit. I imagine it would land on the ground with quite a satisfying thud.
Inspired by all this gauntlet throwing … I present you with Costume Idea #5: Armoured Army Knight Fighter Elf... or Something.
Really, this is less of a specific idea and more a technique that you can use to create armour out of foam. You can adapt it to create any costume that involves armour: knights, kings, Joan of Arc, Braveheart kind of people, elves who wear armour and so on. Heck, you could probably use this technique to make any metal-related costume, like robots, Transformers, or tin cans. Let your imagination (and your dreams of ironwork) guide you.
Here’s a tutorial from Penwiper Unlimited on how to make craft foam look like metal armour. Although it seems pretty involved (that part with the stove looks scary!), it’s actually WAY easier than most costume design for cosplay. Which is a whole other topic of conversation.
All of these ideas look amazing...but they also look like they'd take SO long to make! The patience these people have! I guess that's why I'm not a crafter...
Alice, we'll find some quick, easy-to-make crafty costumes, too! :) You ARE a crafter! Yeah! :)
